What
is Massage Therapy ?
 |
Massage Therapy
is a general term covering several disciplines that utilize many forms
of
bodywork techniques to promote healing and health.
Body work includes but not limited to: neuromuscular
therapy,
sports massage, reflexology, swedish massage, and others.
Massage therapy is based on the
fact
that soft
tissues; muscles, ligaments, and fascia—respond to touch. Most pain is
myofacial (soft tissue), in origin. Muscles
not only move joints, they stabilize them, and
they provide
armor for the internal organs so it is extremely important to maintain
their
and your health. The function of
muscles can cause more pain than people realize. Massage
can also help normalize the body’s ability to withstand stress.

|
Massage Therapy
encourages healing by promoting the flow of blood and lymph fluids,
relieving
tension, stimulating nerves plus stretching and loosening muscles and
connective tissue to keep them elastic. In
addition to the physical benefits, massage provides
much needed touch
that is often absent in today’s world. Safe
and caring touch provides a human connection that
promotes
relaxation and emotional well being.
(this touch/massage can be done FULLY
CLOTHED, on a massage
table or chair)

Reflexology is a
technique that stimulates the feet
and hands to promote healing and stimulate the rest of the body’s
internal
organs and muscle systems reflexively. Sometimes when the achy/sore
area is
hypersensitive to touch work on the feet/hands can reduce the affected
area so
it can be worked on directly |
|
Deep
Tissue:
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage
therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and
connective
tissues. It
is especially helpful for chronically tense
and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore
shoulders.

|
Neuormuscular therapy /
Trigger Points
are sensitive points in the muscles,
which radiate or refer to various parts of the body and can mimic many
conditions. This treatment type is
usually incorporated in a massage session.

Swedish Massage

|
Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy but the
movement
is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of
tension and
pain.
