what you think is
excessive is probably
what your body needs.
Why—after a massage your cells are more active since
your general circulation is increased. Also
we have activated and woken up some cells that
have been quite and
squished from the tension in the muscles. These
cells now feel dehydrated. Our body is 98%
water so the cells are
craving water. The more water the cells
get, the less sore your muscles will be later in your day/night. The water also helps flush out the tense
area from any toxins that were stuck in the area. |
Icing a few times after
your massage can also help
decrease soreness. During the massage
we increased circulation. The way your
body responds to ICE is that it pulls more circulation from the
extremities (in
prep for hypothermia). This means it
pulls the toxins away from the area we just worked on and opened
up-released
tension. As the toxins decrease, the ache does too!
Once you take the ICE off, the blood will increase
to the
loosened area- this bring nutrients to the cells and muscles, again
that will
decrease the aches/pai |
As we discussed, stretching
helps remind and retrain the muscle to a better place.
Muscles learn quickly and what we teach
them- both good and bad. A tight muscle
doe not know that ‘tight’ is not a good place to be.
Stretching reminds and trains the muscle that it can
be
comfortable in a different position- longer. The
longer, (untightened) the muscle the more
movement you can have with
less aches/pain and the longer it takes the muscle to tighten up again. All this allows you a better day.
Try
and combine you stretching into your daily routine.
IE: when reaching for paper, lean away and stretch
the pecs, when walking to the
bathroom-stretch your
upper back- traps.
